The Tap-N-Cruise supports more than just Cruise Control and Tap Shift. You chose a 58x powertrain for it’s technological advances, now use all the features that have been sitting idle in the ECM and TCM.
In addition to Cruise Control and Tap Shift, we support
Brake Input
The ECM and TCM expect to see a valid secondary service brake input. The Tap-N-Cruise provides this signal. It also can resolve problems with the brake signal to the ECM/TCM when using LED tail lights.
Tow/Haul or Sport Mode
Enable a 2nd set of shift tables in the TCM. There is an output for a light to indicate the alternate shift tables are being used.
A/C Request
Allowing the ECM to control the a/c compressor relay results in smoother compressor engagement/release, new car smooth idle load compensation, and a/c pressure based cooling fan control. No more trinary switches or idle quality issues when the compressor is actuated.
Fixed and variable displacement compressors supported along with optional 4000rpm compressor cutout.
ECM Controlled Cranking
The 58x ECM is factory designed to control the starter and engine cranking. When this function is used faster starts and less idle flare result. Uses the internal park-neutral switch from the transmission to allow cranking only in Park or Neutral – no external switch required. The Tap-N-Cruise enables your original ignition switch to command the ECM to start the engine. With the ECM controlling the starter the Tap-N-Cruise supports “EZ-Start” for a factory style startup, where the engine will continue to crank until running if the ignition key is released while cranking. This allows the easy installation of “push button” start with a single normally open pushbutton.
Parking Brake
The Tap-N-Cruise has an input for a parking brake switch. This enables powertrain protection modes if the vehicle is driven while it is engaged. More importantly the ECM Crank Relearn procedure requires a valid parking brake signal. Without that signal the Crank Relearn often cannot be performed.
Brake Input
The LS/LT ECM and TCM expect to see a valid secondary service brake input. The Tap-N-Cruise provides this signal. It also can resolve problems with the brake signal to the ECM/TCM when using LED tail lights.
Alternator Control
Most 58x powertrains come from the salvage yard with a 2-pin DR44 or Bosch alternator. The Tap-N-Cruise can command the ECM to set the charging voltage as it should for these units, eliminating the need for retrofit of a 4-wire alternator. More details here, about 2-pin and 4-pin alternators
OLED DIC Display
Optional Driver Information Center display provides fast and easy information about powetrain status. We use a modern Organic LED display for low power, low heat, and exceptional clarity. Two modes of operation are owner selectable.
The “Basic” mode shows Transmission Current Gear, Transmission Mode, Shift Direction,Torque Converter lockup status, Vehicle Speed, Cruise Control Driver Set Speed, Cruise Control Active/Engaged.
The “Data” mode adds APP Position, Instant MPG, and Calculated Delivered Torque
Our DIC displays the actual gear the transimssion is in as you drive, not just a gear shifter position. Commanded or actual gear can be selected — know exactly what gear your transmission is in at any time with a quick glance.
