A simple but data-packed Driver Information Center that works with the Tap-N-Cruise. It is a plug-n-play installation with the Tap-N-Cruise that uses a flicker-free Organic LED (OLED) display unaffected by heat or cold. Basic or Advanced data and screen brightness can be selected and configured from the Tap-N-Cruise configuration menus.
Basic Data:
Current Transmission Gear – not just a PRNDL display.
Transmission Manual Mode active and type [ERS or DSC]
Transmission Gear Shift direction
Torque Converter lockup state
Cruise Control Driver Set Speed – 3 digits
Cruise Control Active
Vehicle Speed – 3 digits, MPH or KPH
Auto Grade Braking Active
Advanced Data adds:
Accelerator Pedal Position (in place of shift direction)
Instant MPG – USA MPG, L/100Km, UK MPG
Calculated Delivered Engine Torque
This video is a short drive to show the DIC’s capabilities:
Physical:
Available in Blue, Green or Amber to match other gauges
Easy to mount 4″x2″x1″ black ABS plastic case
18″ TXL wire plug-n-play harness
Locking Delphi Metripack connectors
Automotive/Industrial rated components used throughout
Low power consumption: <70ma in use, 0ma off-state
Tech Info
Our Driver Information Center is a simple way to update your Tap-N-Cruise equipped vehicle with a modern monitor for powertrain conditions without laptops, scan tools, or other cumbersome equipment.
True transmission active gear data is lacking even in OEM displays; most are a modern ‘PRNDL’ and you do not know exactly which gear it is in. Our gear data shows the actual progression thru the gears as you drive. When you shift to ‘Drive’ the gear display shows “First”. As you speed it up it progresses to Second, Third, Forth, etc. As you slow down it shows Third, Second, First, etc. For 4L80e transmissions the display stops at Fourth. 6L80/90e it stops at Sixth.
Current Gear data can be selected in the Tap-N-Cruise for Commanded or Actual gear. “Commanded” will show which gear the TCM is requesting. “Actual” will show which gear the transmission is currently operating in
Let’s consider both cases on a 2->3 upshift. Commanded will show “Third” as soon as the TCM calculates it wants Third gear. The transmission is still in Second gear but the display will show Third. Actual will show “Third” only once the transmission is actually in 3rd gear.
When the transmission is in manual mode an E or D is shown to indicate ERS or DSC mode. For ERS the gear displayed is the highest allowed. For DSC the gear displayed is the current operating gear.
Torque Converter lockup is shown as ‘unlocked’, ‘transitioning’, ‘slip’, or ‘locked’. Most 6L80/90e TCM’s report ‘slip’ as their lockup state even if there is zero slip occuring.
Data mode removes fixed display fields and adds Accelerator Pedal Position, Instant MPG, and Calculated Delivered Engine Torque. While these are “visually interesting” data they can be helpful for tuning. Even with the best scan tools and dataloggers it can be hard to correlate the data for that one shift that just isn’t quite right – a quick glance and you have everything you need to know to adjust it. Especially for 6L80/90e transmissions.
Cruise Control Driver Set Speed and Vehicle Speed both are 3-digit fields.
Instant MPG is calculated from the vehicle speed and instant fuel flow (gal/hr) and updated every 250ms. When the engine is in DFCO (decel fuel cutoff) the MPG display indicates DFCO. Can be set for USA MPG, L/100Km, or UK Miles per Imperial Gallon.
Display can be changed on-the-fly between Basic and Advanced.
