Tech Info
The primary features of the Tap-N-Cruise are cruise control WITHOUT a pedal interface and control of the 6L80/90 transmission’s ‘manual mode’ aka Tap Shift without limiting you to a limited set of shifters or TCM calibrations.
TRUE drive-by-wire cruise control means the ECM and TCM work together to keep a vehicle set speed. Not a troublesome pedal interface or mechanical pedal puller fooling the ECM into keeping the set speed – those solutions cannot use the cruise control specific tables and settings built into the ECM and TCM. Factory cruise control algorithms are incredibly smooth and precise, they usually maintain set speed seamlessly within 1mph.
Cruise Control Detail and Supported Switches
Until now tap shift for the 6L80/90 A6 transmission has been a limited set of shifters and specific TCM calibrations that work with a hardwired connection. We use the High Speed GMLAN data network to control the TCM as the factory intended. No extra wires to the transmission, use anything from a factory manual mode shifter to your own switches.

Additional Tap-N-Cruise Features
The Tap-N-Cruise uses automotive/industrial temperature and thermal rated components thruout. Inputs are reverse and surge protected along with being thermally limited for overtemperature conditions.
There are no special cooling requirements but it should be mounted away from heater outlets or wet locations. It is designed to be mounted inside the passenger compartment. If your swap vehicle originally had a ECM inside passenger compartment that is often a good place to mount the Tap-N-Cruise.
The indicator output is a quad-driver capable of supplying +12v at 500ma max. For reference a single #914 bulb is 220ma; we recommend LED indicators when possible.
The built-in configuration and diagnostics via the USB port allows any PC or Mac to create a virtual com port (serial) and connect by VT100 terminal emulator eg TinyTerm. No “apps” or custom programs. If the powertrain is ever changed the Tap-N-Cruise can be reconfigured along with it.
The Tap-N-Cruise carries a 1-year warranty against material and manufacturing defects. Damage caused by water, improper installation, or installation in a non-12 volt vehicle is not covered.
FAQ
What tuning is required to use the Tap-N-Cruise?
It may require none at all – but you may want the ECM and TCM related features recalibrated to your specific requirements. For example, a truck sourced TCM has ERS manual mode stock but you want DSC manual mode. This requires a TCM recalibration.
Keep your hands clean – NO need to remove TCM and send somewhere for programming
Can I use a Cruise Control or Tap Shift switch that isn’t listed?
Yes! Interface your own or we offer custom integrations.
Do you offer ECM/TCM tuning or installation of the Tap-N-Cruise?
We can work with you or your tuner if needed. For installations contact us directly.
Will the Tap-N-Cruise work with aftermarket EFI controllers?
The Tap-N-Cruise only works with factory GM E38 and T42/T43 controllers.
Do you support Cruise Control on manual transmissions?
Support for manual transmissions is in development.
Do you support GenIII LS or GenV LT (direct injected) ?
GenV/LT support is in development. GenIII is not high speed GMLAN and is not supported.
